Doan Brook

The Doan Brook is more than a brook, it is a region of natural drainage that conveys water from the eastern suburbs of Cleveland into Lake Erie. It consists of small streams that gather into the actual brook, travel through a few man-made lakes, pass through small forests and glens that have been left undeveloped, and finally follow the Cultural Gardens that line MLK Boulevard to meet Lake Erie.

Very close to home, this was where I began getting serious about photography. For ten years I went nearly every day, first with my entry-level Nikon D50, then my mid-range D200, then professional D3, and so on. I taught myself how to use a camera there, and taught myself how to previsualize images that would begin life as ideas in my head, take a first form as a digital file on a camera card, and be finished in post production. There are over 100 images of this area on my site. It was a formative part of my artistic life, and I owe a lot to the Doan Brook & Shaker Lakes.
